Manor Garden EntranceWelcome to Whalton Manor

The magnificent gardens of the Whalton Manor House are unmissable. Within easy reach of Northumberland's golden beaches, Morpeth, Alnwick, the Scottish Borders and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, they are a must-see for visitors to the area.

Whalton Manor dates from the 17th Century but was substantially altered by the architect Sir Edwin Lutyens in 1908 at the same time as he was working on the castle on Holy Island off the Northumberland coast. The result is the fascinating and imaginative house it is today. Lutyens, with the help of Gertrude Jekyll, also designed the beautiful walled gardens which spread about the house and include architectural features such as an elegant pavilion, a tiled hexagonal summerhouse, a stone pergola and a vast stone paved courtyard.
